LIFE IS COOL BY THE POOL!

The Kroll Family Aquatics Center at Sid Jacobson is the place for fun and fitness — where you can learn to swim (registration for Winter 2018 opens December 1), join a competitive team, earn lifeguard certification (upcoming classes begin December 7) or simply enjoy a workout in the water.

Programs are tailored to every age and skill level, including modified instruction for special needs individuals and those living with cancer. With a six-lane lap pool, a kiddie pool and a relaxing hot tub, our facility is staffed by friendly, professional lifeguards and experienced instructors.

 

Swimming for all ages and abilities

Swimming is one of the most effective exercises because of its low-impact nature. People of all ages and levels of ability can benefit from it. Our six lane, 25-yard lap pool is always available for lap swimming during regular hours with dedicated lap lanes. Even during class times, two or more lanes remain open. Our Kroll Family Aquatics Center is staffed by a professional lifeguard at all times. Any of our trained professionals are happy to assist you. This pool is kept at a comfortable 82.5°F and is 3.5ft to 4.5ft to accommodate swimmers of all abilities.

Learning to Swim

Our heated kiddie pool is a perfect place to have a great time with your child! The kiddie pool goes from 6 inches to 18 inches deep and is a great place to get a child acclimated to the water, build confidence and give our young swimmers a place to play and have fun even at an early age. Getting started early is the key to success, and our kiddie pool is a great place to start!

Relaxing at the Spa

Our hot tub is the perfect place to relax after a workout and to relieve aches and pains from exercise, sports and work. Spa use is limited to eight people and those using the spa should observe all guidelines and only use the spa for no more than 15 minutes. The spa is kept at 102°F and is drained regularly to ensure clean, comfortable water for our members.

Under the expert guidance of our swim instructors, we can help your child enhance his/her swimming ability in a safe & fun environment.

All bathers 5 years and older are required to wear a bathing cap, which may be purchased at the Fitness Welcome Desk. Children in the Toddler and Pre-Swimmer classes must wear swim diapers.

Please note: In situation of low enrollment, weekday classes may be combined.

INFANT
Ages: 6-18 months
Focus is on making the water safe and comfortable. Emphasis is placed on bubble blowing, floating, lots of cuddles and fun! Parents must be in the water with their child.

TODDLER 
Ages: 18-36 months
Focus is on becoming comfortable in the water. Emphasis is on basic floating, kicking and aquatic safety. Parents must be in the water with their child.

PRE-SWIMMER
Ages: 3-5 years
Introduces the fundamentals of swimming! The focus is on floating, gliding and breathing basics. Emphasis is making the child independent of the parent. Parents must be in the water with their children.

For children who are inexperienced or fearful in water. Emphasis on safety skills. Learn the basic building blocks of swimming, basic kicks, arm pull, breathing and floating.

Our individuals lessons are great for all ages, from 6 months to adult. Our instructors will accommodate your schedule and meet your specific needs.

We’ll help you elevate your workout to the next level while increasing strength and endurance. Must be able to swim at least two laps consecutively.

SNAP AQUATICS PROGRAM 
Learn to swim in a safe, supportive environment! The SNAP program is geared toward high-functioning children with varying abilities. Experienced adaptive instructors and individual attention provide participants with the encouragement and support they need to succeed in the water.

LIL’ SNAPPERS SWIM TEAM TRAINING
Ages 4-13 years
Practice strokes, increase endurance and build self-esteem in a supportive environment while preparing for the Spring Special Olympics. New SNAP participants must complete three private lessons or a swim safety test to determine eligibility.

Lifeguard
Training

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING
Ages: 15+ years

Description:
Train now and you’ll be ready to apply for jobs when the warm weather approaches! Earn American Red Cross certification in three different areas: lifeguarding, first aid and CPR/AED. All applicants must pass a pre-test to be eligible. (See below for pre-test details.) Must attend all classes within session.

December Schedule*:
Thursday, December 7, 6:30-8:30pm (pre-test)
Sunday, December 10 and 17, 10am-5pm
Thursday, December 14 and 19, 6:30-8:30pm
* Additional dates may be added based on the discretion of the instructor.

Pre-Test Requirements:
> Swim 300 yards continuously
> Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs
> Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds = swim 20 yards/surface dive to a depth of 7′-10′ to retrieve a 10-lb. object/return to the surface/swim 20 yards back/return to the starting point/exit the pool without using the steps or ladder

Nassau County Lifeguard Certification Requirements:
If you wish to work in Nassau County, you MUST also register for the Nassau County Lifeguard Certification Exam. (After completing your American Red Cross Lifeguard Training.)

Participants must be at least 16 years old to register for their test date. More information will be given to candidates during our American Red Cross training sessions.
