TRAINING COURSES

If you are looking to become American Red Cross certified, SJJCC offers courses for lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED.

AMERICAN RED CROSS ADULT AND PEDIATRIC FIRST AID/CPR/AED
Ages: 12+ years
The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course incorporates the latest science and teaches students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies such as burns, cuts, scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck, back injuries, heat and cold emergencies, and how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, that is valid for two years.
Mondays, February 3, March 2, and April 6, 6-8pm
$85 members / $95 nonmembers
NOTE: There will be a non-certification option available for those who just want to learn the skills. This option is not valid for those that require official CPR training.
$50 members / $60 nonmembers

AMERICAN RED CROSS CPR/AED FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER
Ages: 15+ years
This course will train lifeguards to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Students who successfully complete this course will receive an American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification. The certification is valid for two years, but lifeguards must renew their CPR/AED certifications every year. Class may be shorter depending on enrollment.
Wednesdays, February 5, March 4, and April 22, 6-9pm
$85 members / $95 nonmembers

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING 
Ages: 15+ years
Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel arrive. Those who successfully complete the course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. The certification is valid for two years, but lifeguards must renew their CPR/ AED certifications every year. Must attend all classes within session. All applicants must pass a pre-test to be eligible.
$400 members / $500 nonmembers (Includes non-refundable $75 registration fee. Also includes failure of pre-test, cancellation, or no show.)

  • Sunday, April 12, 10am-12pm (pre-test at LIU Post, Pratt Recreation Center)
  • Wednesday, April 15, 10am-4:30pm (at SJJCC)
  • Thursday, April 16, 10am-6pm (at SJJCC)
  • Friday, April 17, 10am-5:30pm (deep water training at LIU Post, Pratt Recreation Center from 10am-2pm)
  • Saturday, April 18, 3:30-6:30pm (final test at SJJCC)

REGISTER

SPRING SWIM TRAINING
Ages: 8-16 years
Focus on endurance and skills training. Attend as many sessions per week as you would like. Swim team membership not required. Prerequisite: Complete 4 non-stop laps of freestyle swim.
10 weeks
Begins Monday, April 20
Mondays-Thursdays 6-7pm or 7-8pm
$400 members / $500 nonmembers

PRE-CAMP SWIM TRAINING 
Ages: 7-11 years
Jump back into the pool before camp season kicks off, with our top SJJCC swim instructors! This program will focus on a range of topics from water safety instruction fundamentals to stroke refinement. Prerequisite: One freestyle lap unassisted.
Sessions are held twice a week.
10 sessions
Begins Thursday, May 21
Thursdays and Fridays, 4-5pm
$210 members / $300 nonmembers

PRIVATE CPR CLASS
Schedule a private CPR class for a group of six or more
At Sid Jacobson JCC, $85 members / $100 nonmembers
At your home, $115 members / $130 nonmembers
