We are excited to launch a new six-week Power Spin Program – the only one of its kind on Long Island, geared towards the cyclist who wants more!

Utilizing power and cadence plus heart rate and other metrics in a coached environment you will get faster and stronger on our brand new bikes. Watch beautiful outdoor terrain rides on the big screen while listening to exhilarating music. Taught by a certified  instructor, watch your cycling fitness improve in just weeks! Our Facilities

At our Gershwind/Jacobson Health & Wellness Center, the rewards of better physical, mental and spiritual health begin the moment you walk through the doors. As you make your way through our 36,000 square feet of state-of-the-art fitness equipment and recreational space, our friendly, experienced and professional staff are waiting to greet you and your family. With an array of full service group exercise studios, strength and conditioning rooms, cardiovascular area, heated pools, spin room, indoor track and basketball courts, you’ll have plenty of options for your personal fitness. After the workout is over, make sure to enjoy our sauna, steam and whirlpool! Minimum age to use the center is 13 years old. Those 13-15 must complete a JFit Jr. (Teen Fitness Certification Course) prior to using the fitness center.

‘BOYS 2 MEN’ TEEN FITNESS PROGRAM

Ages: 13-17 years
Contrary to any myths you may have heard, working out is GREAT for teens, regardless of size, shape or body composition.

Here are 7 reasons why teens should work out (Source: American Academy of Pediatrics):

As a member, receive a complimentary JFit Plus, your design for living, including an orientation and 30-minute workout. Guiding you through our in-depth analysis of medical history, lifestyle and goals, our trained health professionals develop a personalized action plan to ensure your ultimate fitness success.

JFIT JR. TEEN FITNESS CERTIFICATION
Ages: 13–15 years
This two-part certification course is designed to ensure that all teen members are working out safely and effectively. Required in order to use the fitness center.

Get fighter fit without being hit! Learn boxing basics, improve body composition, gain muscle and lower stress. Limited hours of availability.

AQUATICS FITNESS TRAINING
Improve your cardiovascular endurance, rehabilitate a chronic source of pain or cross train for athletic events with our in-pool resistance and cardiovascular training. 50-minute sessions.

Interested in bulking up, losing weight or building lean muscle? Make the most of your vacation from school! Work with a trainer in a bootcamp-style class and engage in discussions with a trainer & nutritionist followed by pickup basketball in the gym. Bring your lunch.

BASEBALL TRAINING

Swing away in our program focused on improving an athlete’s on-field performance through strength, conditioning, stabilization and flexibility exercises. GOLF

Sink a hole like a pro in our special program that utilizes TRX, resistance band and medicine ball exercises to enhance balance, focus and power on the golf course.

FTP (functional Threshold Power) is a measure of fitness that represents the power (measured in watts).  It is the single best metric used to plan each workout to keep your fitness level growing. This test is a must for riders seeking performance gain and those that want to work in a specific training zone.

Why Should I Take The Test?
Riding at your FTP pushes you to the limit where pushing beyond that point will drastically limit the duration of your ride.

Our new Coach by Color system uses your FTP number to keep you within your correct training zones and allows you to increase your fitness level on an even playing field with all class participants. You will be working as hard as you can at your own individual level.

Before The Test…
Please come prepared to give your best effort.  This should be the first fitness challenge of your day.  We strongly recommend that you eat 2-3 hours before the test, and make sure you are properly rested and hydrated!

The test should be repeated every 3 months to measure improvements in your  fitness level!

How Long Will This Take?
Our FTP tests are a 5-minute maximum push after a 20-minute controlled warm-up.

COME ON A POWER TRIP WITH US!

This six-week program is geared towards the indoor and outdoor cyclist who simply wants more. Utilizing power and cadence plus heart rate and other metrics in a coached environment pushes you to get faster, stronger, fitter and better! Start with learning your own baseline metrics – from benchmark through progression – you will have quantifiable results that match your effort level.

While riding our brand new bikes, you’ll watch beautiful outdoor terrain rides on the big screen, listen to energizing tunes, and train your body to ride to its potential. Meet new friends as you with your cycling fitness improve in a matter of weeks.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Constance Korol is an avid cyclist who has completed multiple centuries, triathlons, and is a two-time Ironman. Constance has a B.S. in Health Education from Hofstra University and is a Certified Cycle Instructor, Certified Yoga Instructor and Board Yoga Instructor.

WEEK-BY-WEEK SCHEDULE

WEEK ONE
Metrics and bike mechanics. FTP testing. Understand heart rate as it pertains to fitness, overtraining, underperforming. Understand cadence and power metrics as it pertains to strength, fitness and endurance.

WEEK TWO
Start riding! Cueing and feedback to ensure the student is watching the numbers and has an understanding of how they should ride. Moderate rides.

WEEK THREE
Full On Cycling: Increasing the intensity of the rides beginning-to-peak fitness. Putting terrain and work together.

WEEK FOUR
Endurance. Power relatively steady with short breaks.

WEEK FIVE
Compete! Tie to put all of the hard together. Personal bests all week long. Striving for more power at lower heart rate for the duration of class.

WEEK SIX
Graduation!
