Sid Jacobson JCC’s Stronger Than Cancer 5K Raises Over $150,000 for the Nancy Marx Cancer Wellness Center

East Hills, NY, October 21, 2021

This past Sunday, October 17, a perfectly sunny and crisp fall day set the scene for Sid Jacobson JCC’s Stronger Than Cancer 5K Honoring Harvey Marx. The highly successful event raised more than $150,000 and had a turnout of more than 400 runners, walkers, volunteers, and sponsors. All proceeds will directly benefit the JCC’s Nancy Marx Cancer Wellness Center (NMCWC) and its programs.

Sid Jacobson JCC’s Empathy Walk Unites Asian American and Jewish Teens to Promote Solidarity

East Hills, NY, June 17, 2021

Local teens put the words “hate has no home here”  into action on June 13 at Sid Jacobson JCC’s Center for Community Engagement’s first Empathy Walk, a social justice and leadership program. The walk brought together 30 teens from local high school Asian American Culture clubs and Jewish teens from SJJCC’s Teen Services programs to create an action step against the recent increase in acts of bias,  hate, and intolerance. Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti partnered with the JCC on the program and attended, walking in solidarity with the local teens.

Sid Jacobson JCC’s Curb Your Mitzvah Event Hosted By Community Bank Teen Ambassadors Collects Over 2,500 Pounds of Food for the Food Insecure

East Hills, NY, April 28, 2021

On Sunday, April 18, Community Bank Teen Ambassadors, Eliza Liebowitz and Benjy Rubin hosted Sid Jacobson JCC’s Community Needs Bank’s Curb Your Mitzvah event as a mitzvah project. Together, the teens raised funds and brought in over 2,500 pounds of food and other product to benefit the Community Needs Bank. New York State Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti volunteered at the event and presented the teens with citations for their community service. Other local officials in attendance included Village of East Hills Mayor Michael Koblenz, Town of North Hempstead Councilman Peter J. Zuckerman, North Hempstead Town Clerk Wayne Wink, and Village of East Hills Trustee Brian Meyerson.

Roslyn 7-Year-Old Raises $7,500 for Sid Jacobson JCC’s Community Needs Bank by Making Mask Chains

East Hills, NY, February 3, 2021

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Roslyn’s Ryan Buslik and her family began donating non-perishables and making weekly food deliveries for Sid Jacobson JCC’s Community Needs Bank. When the summer started, Buslik wanted to take her beading creativity and use it as a way to raise funds for the JCC. With the pandemic essential masks in mind, inspiration struck and the 7-year-old began making mask chains. Over the last seven months, Buslik has sold approximately 700 mask chains, raising $7,500 for SJJCC’s Community Needs Bank.

Over 500 Volunteer at Sid Jacobson JCC’s Day of Service in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

East Hills, NY, January 21, 2021

On Monday, January 18, more than 500 community members participated in Sid Jacobson JCC’s day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Sid Jacobson JCC. Organized by the JCC’s Center for Community Engagement and funded by UJA-Federation, the day engaged volunteers in a virtual concert, a blood drive, and two service projects including a drive-through assembly event where 350 packages were created and then delivered to homebound seniors and the creation and display of luminary bags with messages of hope.
