After School Counselor Offsite- Part Time

Hourly: $18-$19 per hour

Our Youth & Family programs create safe, welcoming, and engaging spaces where children can learn, grow, build confidence, and develop lasting connections.

Position Summary:

The Herricks Afterschool Counselor supports the daily operations of the Afterschool program by helping create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children. This role assists with activities, homework support, supervision, and relationship-building with participants and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build meaningful relationships with children through active engagement and positive interaction
• Support daily program activities, including recreation, enrichment, and homework assistance
• Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants
• Communicate professionally with families, staff, and school personnel
• Support classroom and activity space organization to ensure active supervision and smooth program operations
• Encourage social growth, teamwork, and positive behavior among participants
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in accordance with SJJCC and OCFS guidelines
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and team initiatives
• Complete all required OCFS trainings and compliance requirements
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by program leadership

Qualifications:

• 1–2 years of experience working with children ages 5–12 preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must be willing to complete all required New York State background clearances
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout program spaces for extended periods
• Ability to actively supervise children in classrooms, playgrounds, and activity areas
• Ability to lift and carry supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds
