The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of participants in the Aquatics Center. The lifeguard will also act as a first responder for health emergencies throughout the JCC as needed.
Essential Duties + Responsibilities:
- Enforce and follow pool rules, and use proper lifeguarding procedures when needed
- Educate participants and non-participants on safe water habits
- Maintain constant surveillance of participants and non-participants in the pool area
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of participants and non-participants in the event of an emergency
- Assist with emergency medical services when needed
- Perform appropriate water rescues when necessary
- Assist with various camps and programs as assigned
- Participate in special events as directed by the Aquatics Supervisor
- Perform various opening and closing duties as described on the daily to-do list
- Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
- Prepare pool surroundings for daily use, including but not limited to straightening tables, chairs, pool equipment, and offices, and disposing of trash and debris
- Keep Aquatics Supervisor informed of any problems arising with participants and non-participants
- Report all accidents to supervisor with a completed injury report
- Check the quality of the pool water for the required times, record measurements, and any abnormal pool readings
- Check all safety equipment when coming on duty and report any unsafe conditions to the Aquatics Supervisor
- Attend all scheduled lifeguard training sessions
- Attend to specific setup, breakdown, and/or cleaning duties adherent to your shift
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the professional rescuer
- Nassau County Lifeguard Certification (IA or IB)
- Swim lesson instruction or coaching experience preferred
- Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
