Sid Jacobson JCC Hosts Israelfest, the Largest Celebration of Israel on Long Island

Each year more than 5,000 people from Long Island, Queens, and Westchester join together for a celebration of Israel at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington. On Sunday, May 5, from 12-4pm, Israelfest 2019 will bring Israeli culture, traditions, and a connection to the country unlike any other to attendees of all ages.

Sid Jacobson JCC is thrilled to announce that thanks to the amazing generosity of donors, sponsors, and attendees, Eat. Bid. Laugh! An Auction & Epicurean Event 2019 surpassed its goal of raising more than $1.4 million to support individuals of all ages with special needs; adults and seniors living with Alzheimer’s or other dementias; and those affected by cancer and their families. Proceeds from the night will also benefit new programs at SJJCC such as its Food Bank and the Aftercare Community Transition Program for Recovery.

On Sunday, April 7, Sid Jacobson JCC invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of the Sid Jacobson JCC Food Bank located at 200 Forest Drive, Suite 11, in East Hills. With the mission of addressing food insecurity across Long Island’s north shore, the Food Bank will distribute non-perishable shelf-stable food, personal care, and household items to a network of local pantries and shelters, including but not limited to the areas of Roslyn Heights, Great Neck/Manhasset, Old Westbury, Port Washington, and Glen Cove.

Sid Jacobson JCC’s New A.C.T. for Recovery Program Supports Those Facing the Challenge of Addiction

Sid Jacobson JCC has successfully received funding to launch the A.C.T. for Recovery (Aftercare Community Transition) Program, which seeks to support and assist individuals who are on the path to recovery from addiction, as well as their respective families. The program will be led by the JCC’s newly hired licensed clinical social worker and certified addiction specialist, Cindy Leinwand, LCSW, CASAC. Services will include individual/ family counseling, support groups, spiritual support, vocational coaching, and social/recreational opportunities to support health and wellness.

On Monday, January 21, hundreds of New Yorkers will join in a region-wide day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Sid Jacobson JCC. Organized by the JCC’s Center for Community Engagement and funded by UJA-Federation’s Time for Good, the Dream to End Hunger event will connect community volunteers and partners to make MLK Day a day on, rather than just a day off.
