Sid Jacobson JCC Kicks Off Spotlight Speaker Series with Steve Madden

Sid Jacobson JCC announces its 2020-2021 Spotlight Speaker Series will begin Tuesday, October 20, 7:30pm with Steve Madden in conversation with Rosanna Scotto, as they virtually discuss his memoir The Cobbler.  The JCC will host three other writers throughout 2020 and 2021 as part of the virtual series including Bess Kalb, Cameron Douglas, and Alan Zweibel. Save the Date for Sid Jacobson JCC’s Stronger Than Cancer 5K

Sid Jacobson JCC invites community members of all ages to walk or run either virtually or in-person* at its 2020 Stronger Than Cancer 5K taking place Sunday, October 18. Virtual registrants can participate on their own 5K route while in-person registrants will walk or run the JCC’s USATF certified course in East Hills. Sid Jacobson JCC Announces August Drive-In Series Featuring a Movie Screening and Two Concerts

Sid Jacobson JCC invites the community to join them at the drive-in this August! The JCC will host a series of drive-in events in its parking lot located at 300 Forest Drive, East Hills. The series will include a movie screening of Field of Dreams on Thursday, August 6 at 8pm, a concert from The Allmost Brothers Band on Saturday, August 15 at 7pm, and a concert featuring Penny Lane on Saturday, August 22 at 7pm. Tickets to the events are on sale at sjjcc.org/drivein. All proceeds benefit SJJCC’s Emergency Fund.

Local Photographer Participates in Front Porch Project Raising $18,000 for Sid Jacobson JCC’s Community Needs Bank

East Hills, NY, June 30, 2020

Inspired by the nationwide Front Porch Project, local photographer Stephanie Faust, Fine Photography by Stephanie, decided to participate in the movement locally to benefit Sid Jacobson JCC’s Community Needs Bank. The outpouring of community support and donations she received was more than the photographer could have ever anticipated. In a matter of two months, Faust photographed 100 families across Long Island, raising $18,000 for SJJCC’s Community Needs Bank.

Sid Jacobson JCC Collects Over 28,000 Pounds of Clothing for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island

East Hills, NY, June 12, 2020

On Sunday, May 31, Sid Jacobson JCC’s Center for Community Engagement partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) to hold a food and clothing drive benefitting the JCC’s Community Needs Bank and BBBSLI. In less than three hours, more than 400 cars came through the JCC donating 28,000 pounds of clothes and 900 pounds of food, making it the single largest donation BBBSLI has ever received in its 20 years as an organization.

In response to Long Island’s growing demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other necessities for those working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sid Jacobson JCC has launched the Sid Jacobson JCC Essential Works + First Responders Fund. The Fund allows individuals to choose from a list of local, charitable organizations dedicated to supplying the necessary PPE and providing meals to essential workers. Hundreds Volunteer at Sid Jacobson JCC to Assemble 30,000 Meals in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday, January 20, more than 200 volunteers joined together in a region-wide day of service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Sid Jacobson JCC. Organized by the JCC’s Center for Community Engagement and funded by UJA-Federation, this interactive service opportunity engaged volunteers in a meal packaging event that assembled more than 30,000 meals for distribution to those in need.
