Pool Policies

MAKE-UP CLASSES & CREDITS

  • Make-up classes for group swim lessons are permitted once per session with a doctor’s note and approval from the Aquatics Leadership Team.
  • Make-ups are only offered if space is available. While we will do our best to accommodate requests, they are not guaranteed.
  • Credits will not be issued for missed classes.

PRIVATE LESSON SCHEDULING

  • Scheduling is based on mutual availability between the student and instructor.
  • Students must notify their instructor at least 12 hours in advance to reschedule.
  • Failure to provide timely notice will result in forfeiture of the lesson.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SWIM CLASS/LEVEL

  • Not sure which class is right for your child? Request a free swim evaluation to ensure proper placement.
  • Evaluations take just a few minutes and help instructors tailor instruction to your child’s ability.
  • Contact us at Aquatics Manager, Elik Hirsch, ehirsch@sjjcc.org for assistance.

WHAT TO BRING TO SWIM LESSONS

  • Children under age 3 (and older if not toilet trained) must wear a disposable swim diaper and rubber pants under their swimsuit or wetsuit.
  • Bring at least one towel.
  • Goggles are recommended and available for purchase at the Health & Wellness Welcome Desk.

PARENT/CAREGIVER GUIDELINES

  • You are welcome to remain in the pool area during your child’s lesson to help them feel secure.
  • Please avoid hovering over the class, as it may distract your child and interfere with instruction.
  • No spectators are allowed on the pool deck during swim team practice.

INSTRUCTIONAL POLICY

  • Outside swim instructors are not permitted at the JCC.
  • Only JCC-employed instructors may conduct private or group swim lessons.
  • Members and guests may not provide instruction, paid or unpaid, to others—including virtual instruction while on-site.

ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To participate in swim programs at the JCC, individuals must:

  • Tolerate the aquatic environment without signs of distress.
  • Enter, remain in, and exit the water safely without compromising their own or others’ safety.
  • Be toilet-trained, or wear leak-proof swim diapers/rubber pants designed for water use.
  • Be able to follow simple instructions to ensure safety and support skill development.
