VIRTUAL LEARNING FAQS

Virtual Learning at SJJCC is the ideal experience for elementary school children to complete their daily virtual learning mixed in with “brain breaks” and fun camp-style activities. This new program provides a safe, structured, enriching ,and socially engaging environment to help your child navigate distance learning.

How will groups be assigned?
Children will be assigned to a pod by grade/age range. The maximum number of children in a pod will be 12. Pods will not overlap or come into contact with each other. Children will be provided their own learning area/desk that will be physically distanced from each other.

Does my child need to wear a mask for the program?
Yes, all staff and children will need to wear a mask indoors. All staff and children will need to wear a mask outdoors when physical distancing of 6 feet or more is not possible.

What will be the health check policy for staff and children?
All staff and participants will undergo a health check upon entering Sid Jacobson JCC.  All staff and participants will have their temperature taken and be asked to answer the following question:

  1. Have you or anyone in your household come into contact with a positive case of COVID-19?
  2. Have you experience any symptoms of COVID-19 in the past fourteen days?
  3. Have you traveled to any states on the New York restriction list within the last 2 weeks?

Who will assist with the distance learning support?
Our staff will assist with daily virtual learning assignments, manage student’s virtual school schedules, keep children on task and engaged, assist with school work, and provide educational assistance. In addition to oversight of the pod, our staff will facilitate a variety of activities, including but not limited to arts and crafts, gym sports, and other recreational and enrichment activities. All instructors will be 18+ years and have previous experience working with children in a school or camp environment.

How many staff members will be in each room?
Each classroom will have two staff members, so each room will have a maximum 1:6 staff to student ratio.

Will you serve lunch or snack?
SJJCC will not be providing snack or lunch to our staff or participants. All staff and children must come to the program with a snack, lunch, and water bottle each day. We request that all snacks and lunch be nut free.

What kind of technology is needed for the program?
Each participant will be required to bring their own laptop or Chromebook with a headset and password list for the applications and website needed for their distance learning days.

Will children share supplies?
Each child will be provided with their own supplies to remain at the program. This will include pencils, sharpeners, colored pencils, erasers, markers, glue, scissors, etc.

What happens if our family’s schedule changes, shifts, or our needs are different in a few weeks or months?
Our program will be charging families on a monthly basis. If you wish to adjust your child’s schedule, you will be able to do it by the 15th of the month prior to when the change is needed to be implemented. If you wish to withdraw from the program, we would need to be notified no later than the 15th of the month for the following month.

What cleaning precautions will be taken?
High-touch areas such as classrooms, supplies, and restrooms will be cleaned in-between uses and on a constant basis. Each evening there will be a deep, thorough cleaning by the SJJCC Facilities Team.

What is a sample schedule for the day look like?
Since children will be following the virtual schedule for their specific school and teacher, the below schedule is subject to change.

  • 8-9am: Extended Child Care Available
  • 9-11am: Virtual Learning
  • 11-11:15am: AM Snack
  • 11:15-12:15pm: Morning Enrichment Activity
  • 12-15-1pm: Lunch
  • 1-2:30pm: Virtual Learning
  • 2:30-3:30pm: Afternoon Enrichment Activity
  • 3:30-4pm: Games
  • 4-6pm: Extended Child Care Available
