Seasonal Assistant Director of Camp Kehilla

For 25+ years, Camp Kehilla located at the Henry Kaufmann campgrounds in Wheatley Heights has been known as the best summer camp experience for campers with varying abilities. Camp Kehilla is designed to provide a typical camp experience that is flexible, accessible, and personalized by age, abilities, and interests for all campers. A typical camp day is filled with exciting and adaptive activities such as swim, sports, science, art, music, sensory, drama and more! Additionally, Kehilla campers are participate in multiple special events such as a carnival, color run, interactive circus shows as well as weekly field trips. The summer culminates in an exciting week of Kehilla Olympics. The compassionate, creative, and knowledgeable staff encourage and support our campers in making lasting friendships and reaching their maximum level of independence.

Our Seasonal Assistant Director of Camp Kehilla should be a skilled, compassionate, creative, enthusiastic professional with strong communication skills both verbally and written. They will assist with the growth and care of campers in a fun and nurturing environment! This position is located in Suffolk County, Long Island but training will take place in Nassau County, Long Island. We offer onsite parking and other perks and discounts.


  • Assist the Director of Camp Kehilla with all planning and administrative tasks regarding the camp including launching and tracking registration, planning trips, developing programming and activities, family outreach, acting as the liaison between Kehilla Center and the finance department and administrative team, etc.
  • Assist in directing and supervising day-to-day operation of Camp Kehilla
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, on boarding, and supervision of all specialists
  • Supervise Hofstra OT students
  • Assist in the planning of day to day schedule
  • Assist with assessments and enrollment of campers
  • Assist with recruitment, on boarding, and supervising of staff
  • Assist in planning and implementation of all staff trainings
  • Assist in planning and implementation of open houses and camp clean-up day
  • Attend camp fairs
  • Assist with DOH audit and ACA accreditation
  • Participate in CPR, first aid, epi-pen, and SCIP trainings
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor


  • Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Educator
  • Previous camp experience preferred
  • Communication skills including strong interpersonal skills with clients, staff and parents, as well as the ability to speak, read, and write effectively.
  • Exhibit patience, initiative, enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and strong attention to detail.
  • Able to effectively develop, document, and implement behavior management protocols.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to provide leadership and motivation to staff and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
  • 2 years supervisory experience preferred
