Our full-time Assistant Controller, under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and Controller, will help lead day-to-day finance operations, including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. This position is in Nassau County (East Hills), Long Island.
How You’ll Help Us Be Successful:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures
- Ensure monthly account reconciliations are prepared timely and accurately
- Lead month-end close process, including journal entries, and revenue recognition, and reporting
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
- Clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Evaluate issues for corrective and preventive action
- Assist management in the annual budgeting and planning process, including variance analysis
- Oversee grant reporting and analysis
- Ensure accuracy and effectiveness of donor tracking and communication systems
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and all banking transactions
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
- A proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance
- Impeccable attention to detail and commitment to establishing and adhering to rigorous internal controls
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of progressive finance experience
- Experience in a complex nonprofit that has multiple programs preferred
- Solid experience managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting
- Technology savvy; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, boards/committees, donors, or other outside partners
- Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers
