HIGHLIGHTING SID JACOBSON JCC'S
CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
Sid Jacobson JCC’s Center for Community Engagement (CCE) embodies the spirit of tikkun olam—repairing the world—through innovative programs that create a lasting impact in our community. Established in 2017, CCE tackles social issues with actionable solutions while offering avenues for meaningful community involvement across three main pillars:
Community Needs Bank
In partnership with Island Harvest Food Bank, our Community Needs Bank ensures food security across Long Island and Queens and serves as a vital training site for young adults with special needs. It includes four distinct centers: the Nikki Schwartz Memorial Food Pantry, Migden Family Household Needs Center, Personal Needs Center, and Baby and Family Needs Center.
Volunteerism
Our volunteer initiatives provide essential opportunities for engagement across all age groups, from young activists to retirees eager to contribute meaningfully.
Social Responsibility
We promote social responsibility by educating and engaging individuals on national and local issues, fostering a more informed and proactive community.
MEET THE DIRECTOR FAMILY
Susan Director’s journey with the family began in 1976 when she married Jimmy, the second generation of “Door” men. Initially a homemaker for their two sons, Susan transitioned to a more active role in the family business, Director Door Industries.
The transformation of the business into a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) in 2003 was a pivotal moment, with Susan stepping into a leadership position. The following year, their son Scott brought new energy as the third generation, driving innovative strategies that expanded the company’s success. After Jimmy’s sudden passing in 2007, Susan and Scott, committed to honoring his legacy, propelled the company forward by integrating philanthropy with their business operations.
Now serving as President, Scott extends his influence beyond the corporate realm. Alongside his wife Lauren and their children Jamie, Zachary, and Whitney, Scott is deeply involved in volunteer efforts through SJJCC. His initiatives range from food distribution for the insecure to establishing the JCC’s Men’s 35+ Basketball League, and sitting on both Golf & Tennis and BASICS committees. Since 2023, Director Door Industries has been a Platinum Sponsor for SJJCC’s Eat.Bid.Laugh!, further cementing their legacy of community support.
Lauren has made her mark by blending her professional expertise with her passion for community service. After a rewarding career as a special education teacher, she shifted her focus to volunteerism, taking on roles such as an Early Learning Specialist and Co-president of the Harbor Hill Parent Faculty Association.
Together, the Director family epitomizes a legacy of leadership and giving back, making a lasting impact in their community.
