About Camp 

Camp KehillaCamp Kehilla/Kehilla Vocation Experience/Kehilla Kayf at Roundlake serves children, teens and young adults with special needs, including:
 

  • High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Social Deficits
  • Attention Deficit Disorders 
  • Learning Disabilities 
  • Speech and Language Delays
  • Emotional/Behavioral Disorders


The focus of Camp Kehilla/Kehilla Vocation Experience/Roundlake Sleepaway Camp is the development of social and emotional reciprocity and enhancement of self-esteem. Kehilla camps offer support, structure, excellent professional supervision and social skills development in our camp settings. Our camps provide uniquely designed athletic, recreational and creative art activities specifically created to meet the needs of its campers.

Enrollment process and fee:
Prior to enrollment, every new camper must make an appointment for a screening interview. This enables us to determine the most suitable placement for your child and to ensure the most valuable camp experience.

 

Facilities

Camp Kehilla/Kehilla Vocation Experience are located in a beautiful setting on the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Wheatley Heights.

The campgrounds include:

  • Several large baseball and soccer fields
  • Multiple basketball courts
  • Numerous oversized swimming pools
  • Convenient shelters with newly renovated bathroom facilities
  • Newly expanded Teva Nature Center with an organic farm
  • Newly renovated playground equipment

Camp Kehilla
Ages: 5-17
Camp Kehilla provides an emotionally safe environment for children with special needs who are not able to meet the socialization demands of typical local day camps. It helps children and teens develop social skills, build friendships, heighten communication skills, encourage interpersonal relationships and build self-esteem. Your child/teen receives personalized attention in small groups with low camper-to-counselor ratios: 3:1 for children and 4:1 for teens.

Camp Kehilla provides the child/teen with short, structured social and recreational activities throughout the day which include:

  • Adaptive Sports
  • Drama /Story-Telling
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Nature
  • Craftology
  • Tae Kwon Do
  • Recreational activities
  • Group Games
  • Daily swimming and instructional activities
  • Social skill-building groups
  • Inclusion opportunites
  • Trips to fun filled places 

Kehilla Vocation Experience
Ages: 18-21
In Kehilla Vocation Experience, participants are placed at two vocation sites throughout the summer where they work. Some sites have included:

  • Maintenance at The Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds
  • Friendship Circle, adult social day program at Sid Jacobson JCC
  • Gila’s Gourmet Café and Health and Wellness Center, Sid Jacobson JCC
  • TGI Fridays, Farmingdale, NY
  • Seaford Cinemas, Seaford, NY
  • Nassau County Museum of Art, East Hills, NY


Hours and Transportation
Camp Kehilla /Kehilla Vocation Experience are full-day programs. Transportation is provided in Nassau, Suffolk and Northern and Central Queens.

Kehilla Vocation Experience
Participants work at their job sites 4 days a week and also participate in recreational activities including drama, sports, music and swimming. One day a week is reserved for trips to exciting fun-filled places.

Roundlake Sleepaway Camp
Recreational programming includes athletic activities and individualized swim instruction. Each activity and event is designed to offer campers life skills that lead to success and a feeling of accomplishment. The Miracle Project Camp KehillaNEW! The Miracle Project, as seen in HBO’s Emmy winning Autism: The Musical is a creative socialization program  for campers with autism and other special needs to express themselves through music, dance, acting and writing. Together, campers of all abilities create a dynamic circle of friends as they prepare for an original musical performance!

Offered Monday and Wednesday at Camp Kehilla through the end of camp.

Camp Kehilla/Kehilla Vocation Experience is supervised by full time social workers and special education professionals who provide year-round programming for Sid Jacobson JCC’s Special Needs Center.
