VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
ACE Volunteer Program
Grades: 912
Volunteer one afternoon a week for the semester and work with elementary school children in enrichment classes at the JCC, in Herricks or Port Washington school districts. Member sign-up begins Monday, August 23 and non-member sign up begins Monday, August 30. All volunteers must attend one mandatory training session.

SMORES Mentoring Program
Grades: 1012
Improved for 20102011! Mentor an elementary school child in the Youth Action After-school Program which serves the underserved at-risk population of Roslyn schools. The commitment is once weekly from 3:306:00pm throughout the duration of the semester, as well as a mandatory orientation and two mandatory training retreats, one before each semester. Mentors are trained by social workers and educators and participate in team-building exercises. Mentors meet as a group with Missy for dinner once a month to debrief and learn from their mentoring experiences. Great for teens interested in careers in education or social work! Interview and references are required for acceptance. Funded by a Good Neighbor Fund Grant from the Greentree Foundation.

Volunteer with Children with Special Needs

Feed the Hungry at a Soup Kitchen
Grades: 912
Feed yourselves and then feed others on this fun-filled service day in the city! First, check out some of NYCs most famous snacks and desserts, learn to solicit food donations, then go to the Hebrew Union College soup kitchen to serve dinner and dessert to those in need.

COLUMBUS DAY
Ceramics Workshop

Complete two different projects during this fun workshop! Do one project by hand-building and one on the wheel. Learn about texture, color, sculptural and functional forms. Projects are fired and can be picked up at a later date. Bring a bag lunch or lunch can be purchased at the cafι.

NEW! Teen Tzedek Foundation
Grades: 89
If you had $10,000 to change the world, what would you do? Be part of this elite leadership group and serve on the board of trustees of the JCC Teen Tzedek Foundation. Learn about different organizations and the causes that they help, and get to support issues that are important to you! The group reviews grant proposals, goes on site visits, and chooses which organizations they want to fund. Each participant must contribute $500 to the foundation, plus a registration fee ($100/ members $50). Interview required for acceptance.

ALTERNATIVE VACATION PROGRAMS
Tikkun Olam Vacation

Members Only
Two trips this year! Participate in an intensive community service trip where teens experience a new culture and perform meaningful volunteer work. The trips include food, transportation and activities. Participants are accepted by interview and required to attend pre-trip meetings. Contact Missy at ext. 117.
Fee $1,200
December 2631: New Orleans (in partnership with Temple Judea) Do volunteer work for this community that is still suffering from the consequences of Hurricane Katrina and has recently been affected by an oil spill.
February 2025: Gulf Coast Road Trip (in partnership with Temple Sinai of Roslyn and Community Synagogue) Help the various gulf coast communities that have been affected by the recent oil spill including New Orleans, LA; Biloxi, MS; Mobile AL and Pensacola, FL.
